How to Safely Remove a Bearing Buddy?

Question:

How do you safely remove the bearing buddy? I need to tighten down the castle nut to take a little play out of the bearing. PS great product would have saved me getting broke down coming back from lake.

Hey Bernie. To remove your Bearing Buddy item # BB1980A-SS, you'll want to get a rubber mallet and a piece of wood and lightly tap the sides of the bearing protector until it's loose enough to pull off with your hand. You'll want to go slow so you don't warp it.

What kind of trailer do you have?

It's a 20 foot boat trailer running with 3750lb single axles. When I changed out the bearing I forgot to torque down the cable nut to eliminate any play in the bearing. So just need to carefully remove the bearing buddy just long enough to take a little slack out of the hub. Removing the tire first is essential in order to gain good clearance for removal.
