What Bike Rack do I Want for My Specialized Turbo Vado SL 2 5.0 Bike with Front Fenders?
Question:
I have a 2014 Mazda CX-5 but am not worried about the rack/car compatibility - rather will this front tire clamp work with my Specialized Turbo Vado SL 2 5.0 that has a front fender extending about 7 inches forward from frame? See attached photo. Or is there another similar rack you would recommend. Thanks

Hello Beth,
Wow, that is a REALLY NICE bike!!
I'm so glad you reached out. We definitely have a rack that will work for you, and you're absolutely right to be concerned about compatibility with the Thule Verse Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # TH64SA. Unfortunately, that rack won't work with your Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 because the front fender interferes with the wheel mount system.
Instead, I recommend the Thule Epos Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel or Frame Mount # TH99XE. After checking your bike specs, I saw it has an aluminum frame, which is sturdier than carbon fiber but can still get marked up by clamp-style mounts. The beauty of the Epos is that it doesn’t rely on a traditional clamp. You can even mount it using the rear wheel (I’ve attached an image showing the two mounting styles for reference).
If you'd also like to keep your license plate visible and stay compliant with road laws, the Thule Epos Bike Rack w/ LEDs for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel or Frame Mount # TH49XE is the same rack but with the lights and license plate holder included.
Hands down, this is the best rack option for your Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0. Let me know what you think about it =)
