A-Frame Trailer Tongue Jack to Lift 2,000 lb Trailer Tongue
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Howdy. I have a trailer with an A-frame mount jack. I bought a Trailer Valet JX5-C rated at 5,000 pounds support, but it turns out only 1,600 pounds lift. It is very hard and under rated to lift the tongue on my trailer, at just over 2,000 pounds actual tongue weight. What A-frame/bolt on jack would work well for me ? I like a little over-capacity too, so the lift is well within range. I see some 7,000 pound trailer jacks that are rated to lift only 1,600 to 1,800 pounds, while some claim to lift 3,000 pounds. What should i believe ? Thanks!

Howdy, Mel!
The Trailer Valet JXC Trailer Jack # TV94FR does only have a 1.6K tongue weight lift rating so I definitely see where the confusion comes in. The 5K rating is for when the trailer jack isn't moving up or down, which just makes trailer jack tongue weight ratings all the more confusing.
For your application, I recommend swapping out your trailer jack to the etrailer Round A-Frame Trailer Jack # TJA-5000S-B. This has the same static load rating of 5,000 lbs, but it's also rated for up to 3,000 lbs when it comes to the lift so it will be more than strong enough for your needs. It doesn't come with a footplate, but that can easily be added with part # PS1400700340.
Let me know if you have any other questions about this!
