Question:

Hello, I am looking for a gate assist for a small 4 x 6 trailer. Most I see are for trailers with over 12 in side rails. my trailer has 9 in side rails. Is there a suggested trailer gate assist for that type of trailer? Thanks

Hey Ken,

We don't currently offer a trailer tailgate assist that would be compatible with a 9" rail height, but you could have a 1" tall square tube welded or bolted to the rails to increase the height to 10" and then install the Rack'Em Double Barrel Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist # RA-27C. This system works for rails heights between 10" and 15" and requires that the tailgate is at least 44" tall from the trailer floor.

I've attached a short video below to help walk you through the installation process. If you'd like to send in some pictures after your installation is complete it would be awesome to see and could potentially help others in the same predicament.

Would this item possibly function with 9in rails? I know that it states 10in but I am wondering if anyone has had luck with it using a smaller side rail? Thanks

@Ken We haven't had anyone test this yet with a shorter rail so you could try it, but you'll most likely need to increase the rail height for the # RA-27C to function properly.
