4 Pin Wiring Harness for 2025 Chevrolet Equinox

Question:

I have a 2025 Chevy Equinox which is a new body style/elec architecture. I need to add a trailer harness. Unlike prior years which has a 6 pin Molex connector behind the rear bumper, the 2025 has the same Molex family connector but 4 pin, trailer side part number 33471-0401. There is no relay access panel to add relays. Fuses F34, 47, 61, 54 and 55 in the engine bay are all populated at the factory. Chevy dealer cant help. The factory harness appears to be plug and play straight into the 4 pin trailer connector. Gnd is ok, but no power on left/right turn or side lights. Do you have a harness for the 2025 that is proven to work? I believe the 3 x harnesses on your site claiming to fit 2025 are actually 2024 and earlier since they show a 6 pin molex connector.

Hello Andrew.

It looks like our installers have not had the privilege of doing an install on a 2025 Chevy Equinox. I see that the wiring harnesses that we do have in stock have the 6 pin connector. It looks like Curt is aware of this issue and is in the works for a wiring harness for the 2025 Chevy Equinox, we do have them for presale. You would want to order the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - Preorder # C88RV. Please do not pay any attention to the 6 pin connector in the pictures as it is not an actual picture of the new harness, seeing how it is still in production we have not been able to get an updated picture on the product page.

Thanks Kate. Since none of the pins on the 4pin vehicle connector have power (one does have ground) I'm wondering how the # C88RV harness is powered?. Reading through the 2025 manual it indicates the 'ADAS' features will be affected by trailering, which isn't surprising, but I don't see anything that says, for example turn off bicycle or child detection to enable trailer connector. I'll keep digging.

@Andrew Great question. On the 4 flat it pulls the power through the tail lights. Now this doesn't work with all vehicles, in fact some vehicles 4 flat wiring you would need to run a power wire back from the vehicles battery. Luckily on your vehicle it is set up to get the power source from your vehicles connector. If you look at the the connectors on your vehicles wiring you will notice there is more than 4 wires, so the wiring like # C88RV takes all those wires and converts them down to the basic wiring needed to run brake lights and and turn signals on your trailer. Now if you were to add a 7-way you would need a lot more power ran to the trailer to keep your trailer battery charged and run your brake controller, at that time you would need to run a power wire from the vehicle battery back to the 7 way. I have attached a help article all about 4 way wiring.

@KateF I have the same plug as Andrew and didn’t notice until I went to install it that the one I purchased was the 6 pin connector. Have they came out with a solution yet for the 4 pin?

@Garrett Hello Garrett, At this time I do not see that they have released one for the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, I wish I had some kind of timeline on when it will be released but Curt does not have a date, they just tell me to check back. I really wish I had a better answer for you, but when they change things on the vehicles it takes some time for the aftermarket guys to get caught up.

@JoshuaB The only wiring harness we have for the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox is the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter w/ 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector and Install Kit # C59496 which would be a splice in application, so a little more work than a plug-n-play harness. I still do not have a timeline on when the plug-n-play harness will be released. High demand for the Equinox, so I hope they get one soon! If you need the 4 flat on your car soon and do not feel comfortable doing the install, you could reach out to one of our dealers, they will do the install for a fee of course. I attached a link to see if we have a dealer in your area.

@KateF ok thank you! Is there difference between the 59496 and 59187?

@Joshua It's the converter. The 59187 comes with the standard duty converter, and the # C59496 comes with a heavy duty converter. Given the Equinox complexed wiring system you want the heavy duty over the standard. You will want the # C59496.
