Options For Using Old TH480R Rapid Traverse Feet On A New Vehicle

Updated 07/19/2024 | Published 07/15/2024

Question:

Hi, I have a thule aero blade 53ARB 53 and 480R foot pack. Bought new from years ago but never used. the intended fit kit was for a vehicle that has been sold a long time ago. This has been updated to newer versions and I would like to know if you have fit kit that would be universal. For example, to fit 480R on any naked roof by drilling and installing the base kit. Other wise Id have to buy a whole new kit. Thanks

Hello David. I am sorry to say that there is not a universal fit kit that can be used with the Thule # TH480R Rapid Traverse Feet.

There is a possibility of using the Traverse Feet on your new vehicle, but it will completely depend on what vehicle you have and what fits are available for the new car.

It also may be possible for you to reuse the 53ARB crossbars, but again this will depend on what car it is going on. If you can let me know the year, make and model of your new vehicle I am happy to look into it and go into more detail on your options.

@David Unfortunately Thule (along with every other roof rack manufacturer) has discontinued their fit kit for the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. So there is no way to use the Rapid Traverse Feet or the 53ARB crossbars on this vehicle. A whole new rack will be the only option. I do have a solution for you, but since there are not any custom-fit roof racks for your 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan so you will need to do some custom drilling which doesn't sound like an issue for you. I recommend installing Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack 54" # Y02-480B. This kit is a universal roof rack that is commonly used on camper shells, but it can certainly be used on the roof of your vehicle. The tracks that run front to back on the roof measure 63" long; installation of these tracks require drilling into the roof. The crossbars that run left to right which will secure your cargo or accessories measure 54" long. These crossbars have the standard T-slot track which allows for easy installation of channel-mounted accessories.
