Question:

Where can I find the towing package pre-wiring harness on my 2025 KIA Sorento Hybrid SX-Prestige?. Ive looked under the rear of the vehicle after removing the protective cover on the drivers side. There are no capped harnesses. I also removed the rear interior compartment, and again found no harness connection. Also, will the etrailer hitch for the 2024 KIA Sorento fit my 2025 model?

Hello Jim, thanks for reaching out. According to Kia, the tow package connections on a 2024 Sorento will be under the driver's side rear bumper cover. We have not been notified of any changes for the 2025 models, but it is too soon to say for sure since we haven't actually seen one yet. The plug should be easy to see once the panel is removed. If not plug is present this could mean two things. Either Kia decided to relocate the tow package plug on 2025 models, or your vehicle does not have the factory tow package. It might be worth contacting Kia with your VIN to see if they can shed some more light on things. it could be that a whole new wiring harness will need to be developed for the 2025 models.

Since no plug seems to be present though, I would have to assume that your vehicle is not equipped with the factory tow package. In this case you will need to use the Curt T-Connector # C59236, which will give you a 4-flat connector. For a 7-way you can add the # ETBC7 install kit. Keep in mind these are universal, not custom fitted wiring options.

To answer your question about the hitch, we do not yet know if the hitch from the 2024 Sorento will cross over to the 2025 models. It is too soon to say since most hitch manufacturers have not gathered that fitment info yet. We would need to get a 2025 Sorento here at our shop in order to say with certainty what hitch will fit. It likely will cross over, but we just have no way of knowing that quite yet. I would hope to have that info available within the next few months.

Jesse, thanks for the reply. The window sticker does indicate the car has towing package pre-wiring. I did find three unused harnesses behind the middle of the rear bumper; one black, one gray, and one red/orange. I would estimate each harness is 1.25" wide. I double checked and found no empty harness under the panel behind the driver's side rear tire. I don't know if this will help, but the dealer provided part numbers for the hitch (R5F61AU002) and the wiring harness (R5F61AU200).

@JimS Did Kia confirm that the R5F61AU200 wiring harness is good for the 2025 models? All of the info online for this harness says the R5F61AU200 also fits 2021-2024 models. This would indicate that the 2025 model would be no different from previous model years as far as tow package location. I was reading up on the 2024 Sorento, and one instruction manual from Tekonsha indicates there are tow package plugs on the passenger’s side, on top of the frame rail near the rear tire. I wonder if these are the plugs you mentioned? The manual in the link below mentions it with pictures. This manual is for the Tekonsha 7-way harness # TK24FR. @JesseM I have a similar question about the trailer harness on my 2024 Sorrento. Looking around underneath I also have the three connectors at the rear center behind the bumper and no free connectors behind the panel on the driver side rear bumper. There’s also nothing on the passenger side. I think maybe that is in the Tokansha instructions for right-hand drive vehicles. I have a small teardrop trailer with electric brakes, so I want the 7-pin connector and plan to add a brake controller.

@JesseM I visited our local Kia dealership who in turn called Kia to determine the correct wiring for the 2025 Kia Sorento hybrid. They referenced a CTM harness, but I didn't get the model number. In doing a general search for Kia CTM Harness, I came across Ctm Harness - Kia (R5F67-AC100). The MSRP for the harness is identical to what the dealer quoted, but I could not find pictures of the harness or an installation manual to see how it connects to the car. As far as the hitch, I did confirm the Curt Class 3 trailer hitch does fit my vehicle.

Howdy! I just bought a Kia Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige and having the same question as others regarding what wiring harness to use. I found on the taillight harness behind the rear bumper that has 3 points that are clearly meant to attach for tow lights. Does this help? You can see it without removing anything by looking underneath the rear of the car between the spare and rear bumper. I would like to install a 2" hitch with lights, so that I can carry a platform bike rack. Becuase of the potential ostruction the bikes create I want to plug in Lights to provide clear signals, brake and parking lights to the rear. Also I underestand if this is done right the sensor in the rear bumper will know that either a trailer or rack is not an obstruction. The sticker on my car shows it having tow package pre-wiring. thanx. sb.

@JesseM Hi thanx for the updated post. So does this remedy the issue of whether the rear sensors will disengage as a result of the trailer lights being plugged in? If they do not disengage then the car will not back up because it assumes an obstructiion. thanx.

@StephenB Good question. Typically adding the wiring harness would NOT remedy that issue and you would have to have a dealership flash the computer to recognize the trailer. We have not tested this harness on a 2025 model to confirm yet but typically this is the case with other vehicles with similar features.

Hi there, I don’t know if this helps but I believe I found my pre-wire under a plastic panel. The panel I am referring to is the panel the jack sits on. There are 2 screws to remove the panel and you’re done. I have an 2025 Sorento X-Line.
