Best Suspension Upgrade Between MORryde, Equa-Flex, and Road Armor for Tandem Axle Trailer

Question:

I am in the process of upgrading my travel trailer axles from 2800 Ibs each which meet the base minimum for my trailer to 3500 Ibs axles each. My travel trailer is 29’ and currently weighs about 6700 lbs with tongue weight of about 900 lbs. I am interested in upgrading the leaf spring suspension system by adding an equalizer suspension system with wet bolts. I have no idea on what is better between a MORyde system, a Equa-Flex, and Road Armor. I need guidance on whats best and how to choose and what else I need to take into consideration so I need help from an expert in this area. Thanks.

Well you've reached out to the right place, Kaivon - I'd be happy to help you navigate upgrading your trailer suspension!

All three of those suspension kits you asked about are great, but my recommendation is using the MORryde Rubber Equalizers because they are the best. You'll need one of the following depending on your wheelbase (distance between center of axles), and you'll want to reference the attached photos from their qualification guide to make sure this will work with your trailer:

- 33" Wheelbase # MR87ZR
- 35" Wheelbase # mr27zr

I also recommend upgrading your shackles, wet bolts, and bushings with one of the following depending on the center to center mounting hole length of your current shackles:

- 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps # MR46ZR
- 3-1/8" Long Shackle Straps # MR76ZR

The wet bolts and bushings are pretty standard, but the shackles that come with these kits are 1/2" thick as opposed to the standard 1/4" thickness. If you've seen worn out trailer suspension systems it's pretty common to find that the shackles have elongated holes for the bolts due to stress - you'll get more life out of these MORryde kits.

John G, Thanks for the prompt reply. I have placed the MORyde MR87ZR in my basket alomg with the 2 1/4” wetbolt/shacle kit. I have to go out to trailer and measure shackle size. 2 questions: 1) where do I measure the shackle length (hole center to hole center or total length of shackle? 2) I did a quick measure of the wheel base and it appears that my wheel base is 32”. I dont know if this is becasue Im parked on gravel etc but both sides appear to be 32” - so is this OK to order the 33” MORyde kit being 1” difference? Finally, do you have any discount codes? Thanks Kaivon

@KaivonM For the shackle length you'll measure center hole to center hole, yes. Yes, you'll just go with the 33" wheelbase even though you measured 32". Sometimes we'll have vendors that we let run specials but those appear as banners on the product pages. Aside from that we don't have any discount codes.
