Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Towing a 2,500LB Popup Camper
Question:
Hi, Can you recommend a weight distribution hitch? My tow vehicle is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and I’m towing a Popup camper around 2,500lbs. Last year, the Jeep did sag a little bit, but didn’t seem to affect drivability. I’m only seeing WDHs that are rated for much higher than what I need. Can I use a heavier duty WDH for my set up? Thank you very much!

For light trailers like your 2,500lb popup I recommend the Fastway e2 4,500lb Weight Distribution Hitch # FA92-00-0450. This hitch is rated for trailers up to 4,500lbs with a maximum tongue weight of 450lbs. You will need either a 2" # 40038 or 2-5/16" # C40005 ball depending on your camper.
If you feel like you might go up in camper size in the future the Fastway e2 6,000lb # FA92-00-0600 may be a better option. This is rated for trailers up to 6,0000lbs with a tongue weight of 250-600lbs which should just fit your current camper since tongue weight should be at least 10% of the trailer weight. If you go this route you would need a different hitch ball from the ones above. A 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # EQ91-00-6100 would fit this particular hitch as it has a slightly larger ball shank opening.
The main reason I prefer these e2 systems is they use trunnion bars which are more reliable and less likely to fall out than other round bar systems.
