Question:

Hi, I am looking for a trailer hitch for a VW ID.4 Pro S RWD. I am wondering which hitch we need for this model. Thanks

I can definitely help and point you in the right direction. Right now we have 2 hitches available for the 2023 models. It will just depend on whether your vehicle has a factory hitch receiver or not.

If you do have a factory hitch I recommend the Curt class 3 # C57JR. This is rated for 3,000 lbs towing and 300 tongue weight. This simply bolts on to the existing mounting plate using hardware already present on the vehicle.

If you do not have a factory hitch you will want to go with part # C47JR. This has the same weight capacity as the previously mentioned hitch, but will be a bit more difficult to install. Temporary removal of the rear bumper and impact structure will be required.

I have linked the instruction manuals for both hitches below for you to take a look at.

Hi, Why the difference in hitches whether you have an existing hitch or not? I do not. Also, do you for see any issues pulling a jetski with either hitch? Do you know if it's difficult to do the wiring (DIY)? Thank you, G

@GordonD Basically the vehicles that come with the factory hitch will have the factory mount plate and hardware present which is necessary to install the OEM replacement hitch part # C57JR. Since you do not have the factory hitch, you will want to use the Curt Class 3 Hitch # C47JR. This hitch has a 3,000 lb towing capacity which should be plenty for a jetski trailer. According to the online owner manual, the 2023 VW ID 4 has a 2,700 lb towing capacity. So as long as the weight of your jet ski(s) and trailer is less than 2,700 lbs you will be fine. Sadly, there are no custom fit wiring option for the 2023 ID 4. You would have to use a universal option like the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. This is something that really should be installed by someone with sound electrical/mechanical knowledge. Might not be a great option for a first time DIYer. Take a look at the install video below and see what you think. Also keep in mind extra steps may be required since the ID 4 is electric.
