Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For 2008 Ford Expedition Towing Jayco Jay Flight 32BHDS Camper

Question:

I have a 2008 Ford Expedition Limited and I am pulling a 2013 Jayco Jay Flight 32BHDS. The hitch weight is 1,015 lbs, Dry weight is 7,445, and the Gross weight is 9,975. What WHD would you reccomend for control sway and weight distribution? The WHD I have now with a sway bar just doesnt cut it.

To choose a system with the proper rating, you will need to add the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer to the weight of anything stowed behind the rear axle in the cargo area of the tow vehicle. The combined weight of these two items represents the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of the set-up. The TTW is the figure you would use to choose a system.

The tongue weight capacity of the # RP66083 you mentioned is 800 lbs, which would not be enough for your set-up. Assuming your Expedition uses a 2 inch receiver, I would recommend the Reese # RP66130 Strait-Line system, which is rated for a TTW ranging from 800-1500 lbs. The Strait-Line offers top-of-the-line sway control, and will actually stop trailer sway before it can start. The weight distributing shank, part # RP54970, which has sufficient drop for most applications and 2-5/16 inch trailer ball, part # C40041 are sold separately.

I have linked you to a help article that describes how to determine your TTW, plus an article that fully explains how weight distribution works.
