What Camper Tie-Down do I Need for My 2021 Ford F-350 DRW 8ft Bed? What are Talon?

Question:

Hello team. I have a 2021 Ford f350 DRW 8ft bed, electric running boards under the cab and factory hitch. What model number for both from and rear TorkLift camper tie downs will I need? And, what is the difference between the “ custom fit” and standard, and the Talon aluminum? Also, I have a 5,000lb trailer that I will towing, my camper is 9’6”. Thank you kindly for all of your help.

Hello Joeseppi,

Let's get you into the right camper tie-down. Just as long as your 2021 Ford F-350 does not have factory flip-out steps that are mounted under the bed you will want the TorkLift Tie Downs - Custom Frame Mount - Front and Rear # TL87DR. If you wanted the Talon aluminum # TL85SV. The only difference is that the # TL87DR are made out of steel, and the # TL85SV are made from aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel, which makes them lighter and more corrosion resistant.

TorkLift’s custom-fit tie downs are made to match your exact truck, including things like the bed length, running boards, and hitch. They bolt right to the truck’s frame using factory mounting points, so they’re super strong and usually don’t need any drilling. Standard or universal tie downs, on the other hand, are more of a one-size-fits-all design. They often need to be drilled in and don’t attach as securely. Custom-fit tie downs give you a cleaner install and a much sturdier hold for your camper, especially important if you’re carrying a heavier load or driving on bumpy roads.

If you need a set of turn buckles to pair them with, I recommend the TorkLift Locking FastGun Turnbuckles for Frame-Mounted Tie-Downs - Stainless Steel - Black - Qty 4 # TLS9529-2-LK.

The # TL34VV that you were looking at is for the 6 3/4' bed.

Did you just get a new camper, or getting a different ruck set-up? Any big trips planned for when you have things ready to go?

Good day Kate F.! One year old camper, upgraded truck from a 2005 F350 to a 2021 F350. Thank you kindly for the response and thorough explanation and breakdown of the tie downs. Heading out to British Columbia once I get the new TorkLifts installed.

@Joeseppi I would say that is quite the upgrade! British Columbia is definitely on my bucket list of places to travel to, specifically Pacific Rim National Park, I just hope that it is as breathtaking as all the pictures I see. If you ever have any questions in the future, you know where to find us! -Safe travels Joeseppi =)
