Trailer Wiring Fault on 2015 Ford F-150 with Factory Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
I have a 2015 f150 with the integrated brake controller. Bought a trailer and moved with it no problem, a few months later I go to hook up the trailer and right when I start rolling forward, the trailer brakes lock up. I e determined it has nothing to do with the trailer. Every time I start the truck now, it displays trailer wiring fault. With no trailer attached. My suspicion is maybe the brake controller might be bad. I looked at the 7 prong plug and 4 pin it has both and they didn’t seem to have any corrosion at all. Any help would be great. I just don’t want to buy the expensive brake controller if that isn’t the issue.

I would love to help but the only option you have really if you're having an issue with the factory trailer brake controller is to reach out to the dealer for service. If you don't want to mess with taking the truck into the dealer for service then we have a workaround for you, the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller part # C51180 which plugs into the trailer connector and bypasses the factory controller completely. I would try to unplug the factory controller to see if the warning still appear. If so, I'm afraid a trip to the dealer is in your future as we can't help troubleshoot these.
