Question:

I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax club cab and 6-1/2' bed. I want to pull a 40foot fifth wheel trailer that weighs 12,100 lbs.. First, do I have enough truck and second which hitch is the best to use?

Yes, your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD is rated to 5th wheel tow either 15,800lbs for 2wd or 15,500 for 4wd. This is according to the GMC Trailering Guide for your 2008 Sierra.

I recommend using a B&W B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1067 with their B&W Companion Slider 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3400. This will allow you to keep the clean bed when you need to use your truck bed for hauling something besides your the wheel trailer. The Turnoverball also allows you to haul gooseneck trailers with either the included ball or you can use an 4" Offset Ball # BWGNXA4085 to gain additional clearance with your short bed.

The Companion Slider will travel 12" away from your cab when you place the hitch in the maneuvering position. This ensures that you will not contact your cab if you have to do a jackknife turn to position your 5th wheel trailer.

You will want to add the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157 so that you can plug in your 5th wheel 7-way inside the bed and not have to drape the 7-way to the bumper connection as that may cause damage to the wiring and connector when maneuvering the trailer.
