Can Aftermarket Transmission Cooler Be Installed In 2017 Ford Explorer W/ Class III Tow Package?
Question:
I have a non-turbo 3.5L 2017 Ford Explorer with the factory class 3 towing package. I pull within 500 pounds of max vehicle weight rating, but the frontal area of my RV strains the trucklett. Im sure the tow package includes an oil cooler but can I add another? Can I have too much oil cooler for winter driving without the RV?

Based on the brochure I was able to find from Ford regarding what is included with the Class III towing package your 2017 Ford Explorer with the 3.5L V6 actually does not have a different transmission cooler than the standard Explorers. Your towing package includes an engine oil cooler, trailer hitch receiver, and 4-way/7-way connector.
With that in mind I do recommend adding an additional transmission cooler, # D13502, to keep your transmission cool when towing.
This will get installed in-line of the factory transmission cooler built in to your radiator, and will not cause any issues with the transmission cooler being to cold in the winter.
I included a video of the # D13502 for you to take a look at.
