How To Keep Hitch Ball From Spinning When Torqueing Nut
Question:
Is there an attachment or accessory that can be used to keep the ball still while tightening the nut? I have the big Reese wrench for the nut but I need something that can slip on for the ball to stay still.

Depending on which hitch ball you have it may have wrench flats on it like the 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter x 2-1/8" Long Shank - Chrome - 7,500 lbs # 63845. If your hitch ball does have the wrench flats on the base of the ball you will need to use a large open end wrench to hold the hitch ball while torqueing the nut to the manufacturers specifications. When doing this it is easiest to install the ball mount side ways in the trailer hitch receiver since torqueing the nut when it is vertical is much easier than when it is horizontal.
If your hitch ball does not have the two flat areas on the base of the hitch ball we have used a bench vise to hold the hitch ball while torqueing the nut, and is really the best way. If you do not have a bench vise using a friends would be the best option.
