How Much Trailer Can a 2018 Chevy Colorado Tow
Updated 02/02/2021 | Published 01/29/2021 >
Question:
Hi, I have a 2018 Colorado ZR2. The Curb weight: 4,750lbs. GVWR: 6,000Lbs. GCVWR: 10,300lbs. Payload: 1,250lbs Max towing capacity: 5,000lbs. We are looking to buy a 2020 Wildwood FSX 179DBK. Specs, Dry weight including 20lb propane tank per manufacturer spec: 3,455lbs. GVWR: 3,980lbs Hitch weight: 502lbs It will just be 2 passengers weighing 350lbs combined. We are just weekend campers and pack pretty light. Maybe 250-300lbs of cargo. We will always be towing this camper dry. No water in the tanks and inimal cargo in the trailer. We also have an 800lb TW weight distribution hitch. And a factory trailer brake controller. I just wanted to verify that the weight of this camper will not be too much for the ZR2 and to make sure it stays within the limits of the truck. Thank you!

If the max towing capacity of the vehicle exceeds the weight of the loaded trailer and you are within the payload capacity then you'll be good to go. The payload capacity will need to factor in both the weight of the cargo as well as the tongue weight of the trailer. That is the best advice we can offer as a company from a legal standpoint but there are many forums online which would be able to better assist with personal experiences towing with this vehicle.
Please note, if you'll be towing towards the max capacity of the vehicle you may also want to consider beefing up the suspension. For this, I recommend the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit part # RAS4617. It will work great alongside a weight distribution system.
