Is it Better to Use a Single-Stage or a Two-Stage Regulator for Your Appliances
Question:
I am installing a 30,000 btu propane wall heater using a 100 lb tank. The heater unit has a built in regulator. Do I need a 2 stage regulator from the tank to the heater or will a single stage be ok since the heater has a regulator? Also could you recommend your brand preference on the proper regulator and part number if possible. Thank you.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Though your heater unit has a built-in regulator, it is only capable of handling a very narrow flow rate range. For this reason, it's best to not consider an appliance's built-regulator as a replacement for the second stage for a two-stage regulator.
I recommend going with a two-stage regulator as they are going to ensure that the flow rate going to your appliances is a constant 11" water column pressure.
The regulator that you referenced, part # CAM59013, is a single-stage and best used for outside grills and other low-pressure appliances, not your heater. Instead, I recommend the two-stage regulator from Camco, part # CAM59333. Camco is a reliable manufacturer as you can see by this regulator's high rating. I've linked to a video review of this regulator for you to look at.
