Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Towing Capacity for 2018 Jeep Renegade
Question:
Hi again constant customer here.. thanks for being here. Question. My roomie has a 2018 Jeep renegade. A dealer told him he can’t tow with this vehicle So my question is what weights could he comfortably tow if we used one of your tow bars? Tongue and tow capacity. He may tow a small utility trailer with A 3 wheel bike in it. I would never expect him to go close to 1000 ponds in trailer. I think the 2 inch Draw tite bar which looks to be a easy bolt on from your videos would be a great choice . I haven’t looked at plug in harnesses yet. Any info and recommendations would be appreciated.

I took a look at the owner's manual for a 2018 Jeep Renegade and it says that if the Jeep has a 1.4L engine, that trailer towing is not recommended, but if it has the 2.4L engine, the towing capacity is 2,000 lbs. We have to go by what the manufacturer recommends, so if he has the 1.4L engine there unfortunately isn't a comfortable capacity we can give you.
If he does decide to tow with either engine, the hitch you mentioned is a great option that will fit a 2018 Jeep Renegade, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76021.
As for a wiring harness, I highly recommend the option from Tekonsha because we have found them to be the most reliable, and because it has the highest amperage rating, which means the best protection against potential shorts. The correct fit for an '18 Renegade is the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118651.
There are a few other parts needed to tow with this hitch as well:
- Draw-Tite Drawbar # 36071
- 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19256 or 2" Hitch Ball # 19258
The drawbar does come with a pin and clip so that won't be needed, and the combination of these parts are the best option for towing with a 2018 Jeep Renegade.
