Trailer Hitch and Trailer Wiring for 2017 Lexus GX460
Question:
I have a trailer that is ready to go with wiring for brake, turn signal and running lights. My 2017 Lexus GX-460 appears to be pre-wired from the factory with two types of Trailer wiring connectors. These connectors are detailed in the owner’s manual. If I purchase and install the #C13043, should I be good to go electronically and towing? I also have the 2” assembly with hitch ball that attaches to the #C13043. And if so, I received two separate cost estimates to add towing to this vehicle. One from Lexus dealer and the second from Toyota dealer. Both were above $900. Any idea why there estimate were so high? Appears to be a rip-off to me unless I am missing something. #C13043 plus 4 bolts is approximately $160. 15 minutes to install......

From your photo, it looks like you already have a 4-pole/7-way trailer trailer connector on your Lexus GX-460 that's identical to the # HM40975 we offer.
This means that if you're towing a trailer that does not have electric brakes, you're good to go once the # C13043 hitch is installed.
If the trailer does have electric brakes, you'll need to install a brake controller if you'd like them to actuate. I'd recommend the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty, part # RED24FR. You'll also need the # 3040-P brake controller wiring harness and the # 331-TPH-017 which allows the controller to plug into the existing connector located above where the driver's left leg would be, just past the top of the kick panel as shown in the provided photo.
The nicest feature of the Tow Pro is that it's a remote brake controller. The only visible portion of the controller is the control knob, which you can install on the dash or center console, as long as it's within easy reach of the driver. If you have an unused switch knockout, that would be the perfect mounting location.
As far as the price differential between the factory hitch and the aftermarket # C13043, it sounds as if the dealer is trying to take you for a ride. I've been doing this for 14 years and I can honestly tell you that the quality of the aftermarket hitches we carry is on par or better than the factory hitches.
I've linked you to an install video for the hitch, as well as to a video showing how the Redarc brake controller works.
