Question:
recomended trailer hitch tounge weight for hyundai santa fe

Expert Reply:
The highest rated trailer hitch that we carry for the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75684, which has a 3,500 lb weight carrying rating and 350 lb tongue weight rating. With weight distribution this hitch is capable of 5,000 lbs and 500 lbs respectively.
This means that as long as your specific vehicle is rated to tow at least the same amount of weight, you will be limited to the rating of the trailer hitch. If your vehicle is rated to tow less, you will be limited to the weight rating given to your vehicle by the manufacturer. Check your owners manual or the driver side door jamb for weight rating information specific to your vehicle.
The reason we cannot give you the specific rating for your vehicle is because the manufacturers equip vehicles with several different trim packages and they set the ratings for the vehicle by the options that are installed at the manufacturing plant. It is the vehicle owners responsibility to check the capacities of their vehicle and the weight of the fully loaded trailer and items carried in the vehicle to be sure they are not exceeding the capacity of the vehicle.
I added an FAQ article on how to determine tongue weight that also details how to weigh your vehicle and trailer at a commercial scale, see link.
