Where Is Width Measure on Trailer Tire Size 7x14.5

Question:

i have a 7x14.5 trailer tire mounted on a rim and I have an 8x14.5 trailer tire mounted on a rim, my question is: is the 7 and the 8 tire width after inflation or is it the rim width? 2nd question there are two 7x14.5 mounted on this homemade utility trailer and I have two 8x14.5 tires mounted on rims, and I have to take it about 325 miles away, if I have a flat, can I put an 8x14.5 on and continue on or is this going to be a major problem?

Expert Reply:

The widths of 7 and 8 inches on the tire sizes 7x14.5 and 8x14.5 is the section width of the tire which is the tread pattern of the tire.

It wouldn't be recommended to use different tire sizes, but if you are in an emergency situation without any other options this would be best option to get home cautiously.
