Question:

Thanks - I installed on of the fenders this weekend with self-tapping screws. I could not slide the fender down and still screw against the existing bracket so I just screwed it flush with the bracket. That leaves a measured ~ 6inch space between the tire and fender at the top. See picture attached. Is that too much? Ive read a minimum should be 3inch but I cant find a maximum. Should I just take it off and take it to a local welder? Thanks

Thanks for the photo. Honestly 5 inches of clearance from the fender to the top of the tire is fine if that is what you desire. We normally recommend 4 inches to allow for the suspension travel whether with leaf springs or torsion axles to allow enough space so you won't have contact between your fender and the tire.

Based on your photo it appears there is a bend in the fender, so I'd personally drop the fender down a little more which would relieve that binding. I'd adjust it to 4 inches above the tire and that is likely to solve that issue. You can still attach the fender to the mounts without issue it will just change the angle slightly when securing the fender. Another option for mounting to your trailer because you have extra length is you can cut the very edge and then roll the fender flat to the underside of the mount for a very secure mount without any angle. I've attached a drawing to attempt to help.

Your other option is to use brackets like # CE26061G-2. To secure the fender you can use bolts, rivets, or even self tapping screws like # FA1131822.

If you are happy with the appearance and installation, you won't have any issue with 6 inches of clearance between your fender and tire at the top. No need for added expense as it will work just fine giving you more than enough clearance for your suspension travel.
