When a rooftop cargo box like your Thule Adventurer is used with a replacement mounting hardware kit like # TH04997 it may be necessary to slightly modify the box to accommodate it. Drilling a few new holes in the bottom of the box is not a problem and you can simply use a silicone sealant like # LT37467 to close up any extra holes you might end up with.
Drilling a few mounting holes in the bottom of the box does not compromise the safety of the installation as long as you otherwise follow the mounting instructions.
