Will Having Breakaway Battery and Dump Trailer Battery Connected Cause Problems
Question:
I have a dump trailer. I use the constant power from the 7-pin harness to charge the Breakaway module and the battery needed for the dump trailer pump. When the trailer is disconnected from my truck the Breakaway module is charging itself off of the dump battery. Will it constantly being hooked up hurt the Breakaway module and also kill the battery on the dump trailer?

When two batteries are connected together they will attempt to balance the same voltage so if one battery was less charged than the other it would draw amperage from the other one till they both balanced out. It really won't hurt anything, but if you drain the dump battery from using the dump feature you will eventually drain the weaker breakaway battery too as it struggles to charge the larger battery. It would be probably your best option to have the two on separate charge wires.
