Question:
I own an 08 Chevy Colorado Z71. How can I determine if it is pre-wired for a break controller? It currently has a hitch with a flat\4 plug and Im needing to upgrade to a 7 way Bargeman plug with electric brakes. Thanks

The 2008 Chevrolet Colorado will only have the wiring for a brake controller if your vehicle came with a factory 7-Way connector on the rear of your truck.
To install a brake controller on your Colorado with a 4-Way you will need to hardwire the brake controller using the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. This kit will have a 7 and 4 Way connector that plugs into your existing 4-Way and all of the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install the connector at the rear of your vehicle. I am including a link to a FAQ page on installing the # ETBC7 kit and a video link to a ETBC7 kit being installed on a vehicle.
If you need a brake controller I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Prodigy brake controller and a video link to the brake controller being installed on a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicle is different but the installation is similar.
