Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2016 Ram 1500 with RamBox
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
There are several different ways you can haul bike(s) on your 2016 Ram 1500. The best way to do so would pertain to what type of bike(s) you have and how you would like to carry them i.e. roof, hitch, bed etc. However, since you have the RamBox and it is not ideal to lift a bike on top of a truck, I recommend using a hitch mounted bike rack as there is also a good chance that you have a trailer hitch installed on your Ram. We have a few option which are platform style, hanging style, wheel mount, and frame mount. I recommend a platform style as they will allow for a greater variety of bike(s) to be carried and are typically more secure. In regards to a frame mount versus a wheel mount, if you have fenders on your bike then you would want to use a frame mount style but if you have an alternative frame then you would want to use a wheel mount style. For a frame mounted bike rack, I recommend the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT part # TH92BJ which has padded uprights to protect the bike, integrated locks for security, and sliding wheel trays to accommodate bike(s) with different wheelbases. For a wheel mounted bike rack, I recommend the Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH9044-TH9046 which has large wheel trays to accept tires up to 5" wide and also comes with locks for security. I have attached a review video of the T2 on a Ram for you as well. If you can give me some information on your bike(s) and how you would like to carry them then I can narrow down my recommendation on which is the best bike rack for you.
