Is The Rear Bumper On A 2002 Toyota Tundra Towable

Question:

I have a bumper with three holes in it. Is it a factory towable bumper? Would I still be able to install this trailer hitch and just not have use of the tow part of the bumper?

Yes, as long as you have 3 holes in the rear bumper on your 2002 Toyota Tundra (2 for safety chains and 1 for the hitch ball) they can be used for towing. You will also want to use a hitch ball like part # 19256 for 1-7/8", part # 19258 for 2", and part # 63840 for 2-5/16". According to your owner's manual, the bumper on your truck is rated up to 500 lbs. tongue weight (TW) and 5,000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW). As long as you are within this range, you can safely use the bumper to tow a trailer. There should also be a sticker placed on the rear bumper with its towing capacity which you will want to check before towing.

I do have a trailer hitch receiver that will work with the towable bumper on your Tundra, however, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 37130 is only a confirmed fit for models without the factory towable bumper. As you have a factory towable bumper, you will want to use Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75105.

As long as the ball mount is removed from the hitch receiver, you can still use the factory bumper for towing while the trailer hitch receiver is installed. For a complete towing package, I recommend using both the Ball Mount Kit part # 989900 and the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118378.

I have attached an installation video of both the hitch receiver and wiring harness on a 2002 Toyota Tundra for you.
