Question:

I am looking for a 5 bike carrier that would fix on the back of my Mercedes 2007 GL450. We have 2 26, 24, 18 and a childs bike. Looking at the swagman and the Thule. want something better quality and easy to handle? do you recommend any other brands?

I have a couple hitch bike racks that will carry 5 bikes that I would recommend. The Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack, part # TH9026XT, will fit a Class III 2 inch hitch and has a weight capacity of 150 lbs.

The Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack, part # Y02459, will fit Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch and Class III 2 inch hitch. It has a weight capacity of 150 lbs.

The Thule has anti-sway cradles that prevent bike-to-bike contact.

The Swagman XP 5 Bike Rack, part # S64970, is a single arm bike rack and will fit a Class III 2 inch hitch. It has a weight capacity of 125 lbs.

I recommend the Thule # TH9026XT bike rack if you have a 2 inch hitch. It has the highest weight capacity and offers the best anti-sway cradles. If you are transporting womens and childrens bikes I recommend the Thule Bike Adapter Bar, part # TH982XT. This adapter allows for level transport of bikes that do not have the upper horizontal bar on the bike frame.
