To install a 7-way trailer connector on your Avalanche that has a 4-way connector you will need part # 30955.
This simply plugs into the connector that is located above the spare tire. With this you will have a 4-way and a 7-way connector on your Avalanche. I have attached a photo that shows where the connector is.
If you need a brake cotnroller I recommend part # 90195. The brake controller can be easily installed using a plug-in harness like part # 3025-P.
If you do not have the factory socket uinder your truck you will need part # 37185. This plugs into the 4-way connector you have and you will need to har wire the rest of the wires. The black wire will need to be run to the positive battery post, the white wire is the ground and needs to be attached to the vehicle frame. If you need reverse lights or reverse lockout for trailer brakes you will use the purple wire. If you are installing a brake controller you will need to attach the blue wire to the brake output wire on the brake controller. I have attached a photo of the # 37185 that has the wires noted as I mentioned.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
