Trailer Connector On 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 Is Not Working When Connecting Gooseneck Travalong Trailer

Published 09/15/2010

Question:

We pull a gooseneck Travalong trailer behind our 2009 Dodge 2500. The wiring caught in a tight corner and pulled out of the plug. Now the outlet is not working. I have checked the fuses and they are all okay. Where should I look now?

It sounds like the vehicle end connector in the bed of your truck is damaged or the wiring in the trailer connector may be damaged. Using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, you will want to test the wires going into the 7-way on your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 to see if the connector is damaged. If the wires show current to the connector but the connector is not working, you need to replace the vehicle connector. If they do not show current the problem will be further up the wiring harness on your vehicle.

If you have the factory 7-way on your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 and the 7-way is at the bumper you can use the Tow Ready Multi-Plug T-One Connector Assembly, # 20135, to replace the 7-way that is damaged. It will plug into the factory tow package wiring harness and give you a 7-way and a 4-flat trailer connector on your vehicle.

If the 7-way is in the bed of your truck you can use the Hopkins Endurance 7-Way Trailer Connector Socket, # HM48480, to replace the damaged 7-way connector on your vehicle.

If you are needing a new 7-way trailer end connector to attach to the gooseneck you can use the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector, # PK12706.
