Trunk Mount Bike Rack for a 2016 Ford Explorer with Rear Spoiler at the Top of the Hatch
Question:
2016 Explorer - im being told the TH910XT, and, for that matter, all rear trunk or hatch installations, will potentially damage the spoiler as there is too much weight on the top straps which attach over the spoiler. This Thule is the model Im interested in. Comments - please and thank you!

I do have a solution for you but much of what you have heard is true. While the Thule Passage # TH910XT technically fits the 2016 Ford Explorer you do not want to put stress on that spoiler so I do not recommend it.
What I recommend is the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2. This rack is designed specifically for vehicles like your Explorer that have a spoiler. It is constructed with an additional upper arm piece that moves the straps up and off of the spoiler so no weight is put on it. I have linked a video review of this bike rack for you.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
