What Trailer Hitch Works Best for My 2005 Toyota Highlander

Updated 05/13/2016 | Published 05/12/2016

Question:

I want to purchase a hitch for my father-in-laws 2005 Toyota highlander. You have 3 to choose from and by the reviews you sell a lot of CURT hitches. My father-in-law is going to tow a small trailer and a bike rack, etc. I believe the Curt 13530 will suffice. It has the same towing capacity as the hidden and drawtite. Would you agree that the curt hitch will be just what he needs? Or are the other two that much more superior? I also like the MADE in the USA aspect of CURT Thank you

The Curt Trailer Hitch Class III # 13530 will fit on your father-in-laws 2005 Toyota Highlander and I recommend this hitch out of the two we offer.

While all are similar in design and install in a similar manner, the Curt hitch is rated for weight distribution with a 4000 lb. GTW and 400 lb. TW rating. The Draw-Tite models are not rated for weight distribution. The Curt hitch will be able to tow a trailer and hold a 2" hitch-mounted bike rack with ease.

I also recommend the Trailer Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector # 118413. You will also need a Ball Mount similar to # 2923 and 1-7/8 inch Trailer Ball # 19260 or 2" Trailer Ball # 63849 depending on your needs.

If you are interested in a hitch-mounted bike rack, I linked the hitch-mounted bike rack page to this answer. There are a variety of bike racks offered which can fit with the 2" Curt Hitch recommended.

I have also attached an install video for the Curt Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Toyota Highlander, and an install video for the 4-Pole Wiring Harness on 2005 Toyota Highlander.
