Which Trailer Tire Size is best for a Jet Ski Trailer that has 4.80-12 Tires

Updated 07/14/2020 | Published 07/28/2010

Question:

I have a jet ski trailer that has 4.8-12 tires 4-4 bolt circle. Right now it has steel rims that are rusting and i want to replace them with galv rims and tires. Should i pay the couple extra dollors and ge the 5.3-12 tires or just stick with the 4.8-12. I do a lot of towing to different lakes and didnt know if the larger tire would be better.

Increasing tire width will not really benefit you in any significant way. You would see a slight increase in stability, but if the trailer already rides pretty straight, you may not see any improvement. The 5.30-12 tires would also make the trailer sit a bit higher.

My suggestion would be to use part # AM30630. It is a galvanized wheel for 4 on 4 pattern. It is a load range C bias ply tire and each wheel would be capable of supporting 990 pounds at 90 psi, which should be more than enough for a jet ski and trailer. These tires will perform just fine and you will avoid any clearance issues that may arise with a larger tire and you can save the extra money for the gas pump at the lake.

Yes, you'll want to replace the whole tire as soon as possible. If you can tell me what size unit you have I will be happy to make a specific recommendation.

@Joshua I would need to know what specific size tire is on the jet ski trailer. Are you able to read a size on the tire's sidewall?
