Troubleshooting Lighting Issues on 1998 Toyota Tacoma Using Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness
Question:
Hello: I purchased a Curt converter harness from you some time ago and am having some problems Id love your opinion on. The problems were occuring w/o trailer attached. I unplugged the converter harness and everything is now working as expected on the vehicle side. Prior to doing so, my right turn signal was firing the tail light circuit at the same interval at the same time as the turn signal. Left turn signal had no issue. When I had turned on the hazards, the turn signals AND the tail lights would flash... So, wondering if I need a new converter harness, which would be too bad because I have just not done that much towing... The vehicle is a 1998 Toyota Tacoma V-6 extra cab. Any help or possible reasons for this trouble would be greatly appreciated as I plan to leave next Friday on a weekend trip with my trailer. Sincerely,

It sounds to me like the wiring harness has a bad converter and it will need to be replaced. For this you can use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118379.
I do recommend that you do a quick inspection of the wiring on your trailer to make sure that it isn't to blame for the bad converter. This is a common problem where a cut or exposed wire on the trailer causes a short and takes out the converter. To prevent this from happening again, any and all repairs to the trailer wiring should be done before hooking up to the new wiring harness.
