Question:
I have a 2015 Chevy Traverse with towing package. I am pulling a lite weight trailer under 2500#. Which brake controller do I need? The trailer is a dual axle 2 tires on each side. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

Helpful Expert Reply:
There are basically 2 types of brake controllers: time delay and proportional. I would only recommend using a time delay controller if the trailer weight never changes since they require a lot more adjustment and fine tuning to get the trailer braking right when compared to proportional controllers.
A proportional controller will apply the trailer brakes in proportion to how much your 2015 Chevy Traverse is braking. As such it is the safest way to stop and reduces wear and tear on the trailer and vehicle brakes.
If your 2015 Chevy Traverse tow package included a 7-Way trailer connector at the back then installing a brake controller will be easy. You will just need the controller itself and the proper harness to plug the controller into the vehicle.
I recommend the P2, # 90885. It is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. The harness you would need is # 3026-P. I have included some helpful links on the controller and harness for you.
