Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

Brake-Control Adapter Port

This adapter plugs into the 6-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Brake Controller 3026-P Review

Today we're going to review part number 3026-P. This is the Tekonsha Plug In Wiring Adapter for Draw Tite and Tekonsha Electric Brake Controllers. This part is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Buick Enclave with the factory 7-way starting in 2008. It's designed to fit the Chevrolet Traverse with the factory 7-way starting in 2009. The GMC Acadia with the factory 7-way starting in 2007 and also the 2007 to 2009 Saturn Outlook with the factory 7-way. This wiring adapter will help ease the installation of your electric brake controller.

Basically right here the grey end is a custom connector end which will plug into your built-in factory brake controller port, usually beneath the dash of your vehicle. The other end, the flat black connector right here, this will plug into the back of your electric brake controller. It is compatible with time delayed brake controllers by Draw Tite and proportional brake controller by Tekonsha like the Prodigy, Prodigy P2, the Prodigy P3, the Primus IQ and the Tekonsha Voyager. The way it would install, I happened to pull an example of a Tekonsha P3 one of our most popular brake controllers. We do sell this separately on our website, it is part number 90195. If you look at the very back you'll see the plug in.

This black connector will fit perfectly in there, you just push it. You can hear it pops and locks into place with the tab right on top there. Then your other end, the grey custom connector, this you'll just locate your factory brake controller port on your vehicle and then plug it right in and you'll be all ready to go. When you need to disconnect the brake controller all you have to do is pull up on that top lever right there and it will release it from the brake controller. That should do it for the review on part number 3026-P. This is the Tekonsha Plug In Wiring Adapter for Draw Tite and Tekonsha Electric Brake Controllers.

Our new Tekonsha brake controller was super easy to install. We are new RVer's and are will use it today for the first time when we pick up our travel trailer from the dealer. 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Bought item from etrailer, although there seems to be some confusion as to it's use for a Prodigy P3 90195 Brake Controller install on a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse LT with Tow Package. I'll put it all to rest right now. Mine installed in mere minutes. Grey plug taped to wire harness running up against firewall right above the parking brake assembly. Matched and fit perfectly. Once I noticed the issues I tested the connectors in that plug to insure I had a ground, constant power supply and a power supply when the brake pedal was depressed and that is when I knew the others who had issues with the simple install I've described had much different setups then did I. 506752

2013 Chevrolet Traverse

I ordered item 3026-P to connect a 2013 Chevy Traverse with a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller. My Traverse has the factory installed Tow Package (V92), so the harness plug is already populated and ready to plug into the 3026-P. The pre-wired harness fit perfectly to my 2013 Traverse. After hunting for the factory plug hidden under the dash, the harness installed easily and locked into place. There is plenty of slack to route where desired on either side of the steering column. I chose the left side for a more flush bracket install against the plastic under-dash cover. The harness installed perfectly into the Prodigy P2. The unit instantly powered up and appeared nominal in operation. I look forward to using the combination of these 2 items to safely haul around a travel trailer in the near future, which is why I preinstalled these. One thing to keep in mind is that there is live voltage on the black wire when the harness is mated to the vehicle plug, so if you install the harness but remove the Brake Controller (when not used or used between 2 vehicles), be sure to cover the open harness end with a rubber cap or electrical tape, to keep from shorting it to any ground point. Great product, excellent pricing, and easy to find for my specific configuration! 387088

Wrong connectors for my 2018 Traverse as it had pigtail leads under the door sill plate. 569308

Comments
The 2018 Chevy Traverse is a split model year. There is a 2018 Traverse, which is the first year of the new generation vehicle, and theres a 2018 Traverse Limited, which is mechanically identical to the 2017 model. The Traverse Limited uses the # 3026-P wiring harness, but the 2018 model will not have the plug under the dash. There are blunt cut wires behind the kick panel to the left of the drivers left foot. The controller pigtail would wire directly to these wires as follows: Red/Blue striped tow package wire to black wire on controller. Black tow package wire to white wire on controller. White and blue striped tow package wire to red controller wire and blue tow package wire to the blue controller wire.

  • Can a Brake Controller be Installed on a 2017 GMC Acadia All Terrain
On your 2017 GMC Acadia All Terrain, if it has a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector at the back, there is a factory port to plug in a brake controller. You would use wiring harness # 3026-P. Then for a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. If your Acadia did not come with a factory trailer connector at the back then you can still install a brake controller by hardwiring it in. For that you would first need to install...

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well. All you need to install this in your...

  • Is there a Plug and Play Harness to Install a Brake Controller on a 2019 Chevy Traverse
We know that the 2017 Chevy Traverse with factory 7-Way trailer connector had a plug-in location for a brake controller but nothing is shown for the 2019 Traverse. I would check under the dash, to the left of the steering column, for that wire bundle mentioned in your manual. It is likely held together with a white tag (that is traditionally how GM has handled the wire bundles). If the wire bundle is present the tag should list the functions of the wires. Your R-Pod Trailer has electric brakes from the factory, so you will need to install an electric brake controller in your 2018 GMC Acadia. If your Acadia has the factory tow package, then you can simply use the wiring harness # 3026-P and then connect a controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is my recommendation because of the ease of use.
