Ford Focus Base Plates Questions and Answers

  • Can Blue Ox Baseplates be Used on 2013 Ford Focus SE when Towing with Roadmaster Blackhawk Towbar
  • With the addition of the Roadmaster Tow Bar to Blue Ox Brackets Adapter, # RM-031, you can use the Blue Ox Base Plates, # BX2633, with your Roadmaster Blackhawk towbar. These base plates are specifically designed for use with your 2013 Ford Focus SE but are not compatible with the ST model or any vehicle equipped with the adaptive cruise control feature. In addition to the base plates, you may also still need safety cables, a lighting solution and in most states, a supplemental braking...

  • Recommended Parts Needed For Flat-Towing 2012 Ford Focus With Automatic Transmission
  • The base plates I recommend for your 2012 Ford Focus are part # 524430-1. These are only able to be used on models that are NOT STs and that DO NOT have adaptive cruise control. Adaptive Cruise Control systems use a radar or laser sensor mounted in the front of vehicle that automatically adjusts cruise control to slow down when it detects a vehicle ahead and accelerate again to preset speed when traffic allows. These feature the EZ Twistlock system that make the brackets nearly invisible...

  • Can 2002 Ford Focus With Front Wheel Drive Be Flat-Towed
  • I checked the owner's manual for your 2002 Ford Focus with a front wheel drive, and found that it is not recommended for flat-towing. Per the manual they recommend using a tow dolly so that the drive wheels are not on the ground when towing. We do offer a tow dolly that may work for you. It is the RoadMaster Tow Dolly, part # RM-2000-1. This dolly has an adjustable axle and ramps so it will fit most vehicles. This dolly does have electric brakes so a brake controller will be needed. • Recommendation for Towing a 2005 Ford Focus with Auto Transmission Behind an RV
  • I found an online copy of the owners manual for your 2005 Ford Focus and Ford says that you cannot tow your 2005 Ford Focus with an automatic transmission with all four wheels on the ground. A tow dolly would probably be your best option to tow your vehicle behind your RV. For that I would recommend the RoadMaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2000-1.

  • Will Base Plates From 2003 Toyota Matrix Fit 2012 Ford Focus
  • The base plates for your 2012 Ford Focus are designed specifically for that vehicle to fit the frame. The base plates that you have on your 2003 Toyota Matrix cannot be modified to fit your Focus. Any modification would certainly compromise the structural integrity of the base plate system and would not be safe. The base plate kit I recommend for your Focus is the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, part # BX2633. This is designed to fit non-ST models without the Adaptive Cruise Control System...

  • Could I Install the Roadmaster Base Plate Kit for a 2012 Ford Focus
  • I did some checking and it looks like your 2012 Ford Focus is tow-able as-is. I would still recommend you check your owners manual for confirmation of this and to see if there are any other procedures they recommend for safe flat towing. If you are mechanically inclined you should have no problem installing this base plate kit on your vehicle. I will send you a copy of the installation instructions in a separate email. There are 5 main components to flat towing, the # 524430-1 will...

  • Will Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar Work With EZ Base Plate Kit # 52491-1 on 2000 Ford Focus
  • The 2000 Ford Focus with the manual transmission is towable as is. The automatic model must be towed with a tow dolly. So, you will be able to flat tow your Focus since it is a manual transmission. The Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, part # 52491-1, you have referenced, are the correct base plates for your Ford Focus. The Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar will work with the Roadmaster EZ base plates on your Focus. To complete the towing set up for your Ford Focus, you will also need safety...

  • Roadmaster Base Plate Recommendation for a 2012 Ford Focus
  • We do carry the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, # 524430-1, for your 2012 Ford Focus as long as it does not have adaptive cruise control because adaptive cruise control uses a forward facing radar that detects other vehicles in front of the vehicle and adjusts the speed accordingly. These base plates will not work with ST models. If you do not already have a tow bar, then I would recommend using the Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520. This tow bar includes the disconnects needed to attach the...

  • Does the Battery Need to be Disconnected to Flat Tow a 2012 Ford Focus
  • Any model of the 2012 Ford Focus must have the battery disconnected in order to flat tow the vehicle. There are actually some very good instructions in the vehicle owners manual. I was able to view them on the Ford website. Check your owners manual in a section called Recreational Towing. Normally, when a battery must be disconnected, you need to use the Roadmaster auto battery disconnect, # RM-765. However, Roadmaster has a note that states Ford has not yet approved the use of the battery...

  • When installing the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX2184 on your 2005 Ford Focus, you will need to select a tow bar that is compatible with Blue Ox base plates. Many other tow bar manufacturers offer adapters to allow the use of their tow bar with competitors base plate kits. • RoadMaster Base Plate kit, part # 524407-1, only includes the base plates and corresponding installation hardware. It does not include a tow bar or any wiring. You would need to purchase a tow bar separately like part # RM-020. Installing part # 524407-1 will require trimming the lower grille on a stock bumper.
