    • Tail lights: 5 amps per circuit
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located either behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail light assemblies or behind the rear bumper along the frame rail.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Excellent. Basically a simple installation.

Product fit perfectly and took about an hour to install. I purchased 15 feet of wire loom to protect the cables, but everything else was included. I used dialectric grease on all electrical plug-in connectors to ensure years of service.

Received the package and noticed that the contents had shifted creating a hole through the cardboard. The hitch, hardware and wiring harness appear to be ok. Until the hirch is installed i really won't know if there are any issues.
The hitch and harness look we made.

Everything fit and worked as expected. It was for my Toyota Tacoma. Zero issues as expected from etrailer. Their products, order process and support are very professional so I like dealing with etrailer over the years.

That's my kind of wiring. I shopped around for installing trailer wiring. Prices were as high as $100. ! This kit for my Toyota Tacoma cost $35. I loosened four bolts, drilled in a ground screw. Plug and pull wire and done. I was able to pull the wired to the far side throughout the hollow receiver hitch. Didn't even need the zip ties. Great company. Thanks

by:

No splicing of wires. Great

by:

So easy I did it from the ground. I found it is not necessary to unhook all of the connections and remove the taillights. It took about 30 minutes

by:

The hitch looks like it will fit. ( it is not installed as of this message)
The wire harness is in and works like it should. Plug and play is wonderful.
Fast shippin good price.
Thanks.

Awesome! This was the easiest trailer harness install I’ve ever done. It took a whole 20 minutes to install. It works perfectly. Delivery was ahead of schedule. I’ve ordered from etrailer in the past and will be ordering from them again when needed in the future.

Easiest trailer wiring harness install I’ve ever done. Took me less than an hour from start to finish. Great product

My pickup had a new frame installed due to a manufacturer's recall. During the installation the old wiring for the trailer lights was taken out. I didn't want to pay for a commercial company to reinstall a wiring kit after I saw how easy this system was for installation. The Curt custom fit vehicle wiring was as easy to install as claimed. I have limited mechanical experience so I would say anyone who can read directions and has a few tools can do this.

I purchased a wiring harness a year ago for my 2013 Toyota Tacoma Pickup to haul my utility trailer. The installation instructions were very simple and clear. I installed the harness within an hour without any problems. It's working great when I need it and would recommend this product and any other from Etrailer. I have purchased many items from Etrailer thru the years and find the videos and other instructions very helpful with the installation. Great prices, great products and above all great support!

Wire length was perfect . Plenty of slack . The directions are inside the package and are simple . Vague on a few little parts but if you search out the answers it’s simple . The lights on my truck worked after installing just as they did prior to the job and I will test the u it tomorrow when my tester arrives , or if I just back up to my boat . I loved the included zip ties to get the wires neat , and the whip is long enough to put literally anywhere . I’d buy this again for sure . The connectors snapped in solid as I would expect for a quality product . So far a great purchase .

This product failed and it was a pain in the ass to get it all worked out as far as the warranty thing goes … understandable since people scam all the time but man , I wasn’t too happy about the process . The new one works fine and has worked fine and I will for sure be getting a backup unit so if it fails while I’m on the road I’m not stranded because of an easy to fix plug and play part . It was easy to install for me … it seems to be working great at this point and I take my trailer for a drive a few times a month to keep it all working .

Excellent product. Easy install.

The process was seamless. The right parts, quickly shipped, easily installed.

  • Trailer Lights Don't Work When Headlights are On
The problem you are having is a classic ground issue. If the ground wire to the trailer frame or the tail light grounds are not connected securely to clean, rust and paint free surfaces then when the headlights are turned the extra amperage draw for the running lights will cause all sorts of lighting issues. I would start by removing the ground wire at the trailer coupler and cleaning up the connection point and re-securing it to the trailer frame. Next I would check the ground connection...

  • Trailer Lights Wont Work with Headlights On
When we have customers tell us that their trailer lights only work when the vehicle's headlights are off then this is usually a ground issue. Did you check both the trailer side and vehicle side connector? If not I would do this first and also, by check I mean you should remove each of them, sand down the surface and then reattach with new mounting hardware. A visual inspection of the ground terminal is not sufficient to check for function. The other potential cause is that the lights...

  • 4-Way Recommendation for 2015 Tacoma with 7-Way
For what you are wanting to do the # C55513 will work. It installs by plugging inline with the factory taillight connectors of your 2015 Toyota Tacoma and will give you a 4-way that you can then use for your LED light bar. It's only listed as for "vehicles without a 7-way" because typically if you had a 7-way this wouldn't be the solution you'd be looking for. Since this bypasses all of the factory trailer wiring of your vehicle it will install and work great.

  • Troubleshooting Lights Dimming When Brakes are Applied with Trailer Connected 2012 Toyota Tacoma
There are a couple issues you may be having. You may have a bad ground or short on your trailer wiring and when you hit the brakes the short causes an excessive drain on your vehicle battery and your lights dim. If you see the voltmeter on your dash dive when this happens then you know this is happening. You could have a weak battery or alternator, around here you can have those things tested at local car part stores. You may also just have too many lights on your trailer and there is...

  • Why Would Trailer Wiring Work When Headlights are On
The trailer running light circuit is designed to activate when the vehicle has it's head lights and/or running lights on. So what you are seeing very likely normal. BUT if the stoplights and blinkers only work when the headlights are on then that is definitely a problem. If that is the case I would assume it has a ground issue on the trailer wiring. I would recommend then going over the grounds of the light assemblies and the main ground of the trailer wiring that attaches to the frame....

  • Can a Trailer with a 5-Way Attach to a Vehicle with a 4-Way
A 5-way from a trailer will attach directly to a 4-way like what is on the part # C55513 that you referenced. The fifth pin will just hang off of the edge of the 4-way and wouldn't be active. If you are looking for an adapter to go from a 4-way on your vehicle to a 5-way you would need the part # 20036.

When turning on your 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter's headlights your trailer lights stop working is an indication that you have a ground issue. When your sprinter's headlights are on the highest amperage a draw is placed on the wiring system and a faulty ground will appear.
