Ford Flex Cargo Carriers Questions

  • We offer two different lightweight aluminum cargo carriers, the Curt folding 19x60 inch model, part # C18100 or the 20x47 inch MaxxTow you referenced, part # MT70108. Both carriers weigh just under 30 lbs and are the lightest cargo carriers we offer. Either carrier would be compatible with your Flex, but since you mentioned that you were more interested in a 60 inch wide carrier, the Curt model might be your best bet. Since the C18100 is rather long, it is important that when...

  • None of the trailer hitch mount cargo carriers that fit a Class I trailer hitch can fold up. There are several options for Class I hitches: # C18145 # 6500 # C18110 # 52017 Out of these options I recommend # 6500 because the rise in the shank and the ability to adjust how close the basket part is to the vehicle will allow you to keep the carrier out of the exhaust path. If you want a folding carrier you would need to remove the factory installed hitch and install a...

  • Surco only has fit information for the Ford Flex up to the 2012 model year. If the 2014 happens to be exactly the same then you will actually need Safari Basket # SPS4560 and installation adapter # SPCH100 according to Surco. This adapter fits in channels in the side rails on the Ford Flex. If your Flex has raised side rails then you could use a Safari basket with the clamp-on adapters such as # SPS4550-1101. But you may need to go with a wider basket to ensure fit such as...

I attached review videos for the hitch and the cargo carrier you referenced. The Curt carrier part # C18151 would also fit and fold up, this carrier would just have about 4 inches less of depth.

  • There are a few different factors that you will want to look at in your situation. The first factor to consider is the weight of the gear you plan on carrying. I found a copy of the owners manual for your 2013 Ford Flex and I found that the roof weight capacity of your Flex is 100 lbs and the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch is 200 lbs. If you plan on carrying more than 100 lbs of gear and luggage, a hitch mounted cargo carrier may be your best option, it is also the...

For a roof rack, I would recommend Thule Roof Rack For Ford Flex, part # TH480R, THARB60, THKIT1518, which includes everything needed to mount to the roof of your 2011 Ford Flex. To...

  • The best advice I can give you for determining how this 20x60 Railed Cargo Carrier # C18150 will fit on your 2011 Ford Flex is to measure from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point of your bumper. Once you have that measurement you will be able to determine exactly how the # C18150 would fit on your vehicle in relation to your exhaust. The # C18150 measures 7-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the carrier platform and then the carrier has a rise...
