Sturdy, Dual-Side-Opening Lid
The Cargo16 lid opens from both sides for easy access to your cargo. This means your gear is always close at hand whether you mount the box closer to the driver or passenger side. The extra-stiff lid helps reduce road noise and vibration, and it guards against dents and scratches.
Built-In Lock
The box includes a built-in lock on both sides to secure your gear. The locks also deter theft of the box itself because it denies access to the mounting hardware. The key can only be removed once it is in the locked position, ensuring the box is securely locked and safe for transportation. 3 locking points on both sides keep the lid secure when locked.
Universal Clamp-On Mounting Hardware
The Cargo16 installs with inward-facing quick-attach mounting clamps. These clamps fit most crossbar styles, and they are inserted into the slots along the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads. To adjust a clamp, loosen the knobs and move the clamp to the desired location. Then tighten the knobs down to close the clamp around your crossbar.

Pro: This box is a perfect option to add to the cargo capacity of my Toyota RAV4. Great for camping, fishing or skiing trips (but watch out that your XC skies don't exceed the length capacity of the box!).
Pro: The box fits onto Malone cross bars very securely: once screwed down it's solid. Install and removal is very easy.
Con: The front arm that holds the box lid open is attached with a rubber-covered pin at the front, and a metal retainer at the rear, see photos. Without the locking metal retainer, the front arm pops loose off the lid's pin. Initially I thought this was a mfg defect, but this is how it's built. etrailer contacted Malone and both provided great support. Malone sent me a new rubber grommet to insert on the pin at the front arm. But that didn't fix the problem at all.
In the end, I replaced the rubber grommet with a metal bolt that permanently attaches the front support arm with the box lid.
Would I buy this product again? Probably not.

Very nice look. Not that much noise while driving unloaded. Have not tried loaded yet. Love the look. Easy access. Not heavy to install but would need two people. Really recommend!
We received our Malone Cargo Box and are very happy with it. It was installed on a 2016 Subaru Outback. For us, it holds two complete sets of golf clubs, golf shoes, balls, a bag of miscellaneous tie downs, and a small metal carrying case with wheels. We haven't used it on a long trip yet, but locally it's very stable. There is some strong wind noise when the sunroof is open. We also needed to use shims on the rear crossbar to prevent the pod from hitting the antenna. You can access this Box from either side which is nice. Overall we're happy with our purchase.

This cargo box works for my needs now. But, one of the keys BROKE off in the lock chamber. I cannot get it out. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

I have just received the product, and so far so good; light enough at 37.5 lbs; installation was a breeze; took it for a short spin on the highway, reached close to 80 mph, seems to hold up pretty well. But time will tell in the end.

After using this roof box for the past year, I can say with experience that it is just what I was looking for. It's the right length for skis and snowboards and wide enough to fit several pairs. It also has enough height to fit additional gear on top of the skis and boards. I usually throw and couple duffles and my cooler on top. The duel hinge feature is quite nice when loading/unloading on the street. The product seems to be pretty durable and made of high quality materials. The box attaches to roof rack crossbars solidly. When it is loaded there is very little to no movement while driving at highway speeds.
Didn’t have the one I initially wanted in stock and need for upcoming trip so had to get slightly smaller one. Tammy P. Was super helpful with the orders. Haven’t used it yet but looks like this box is going to work fine. Love the free shipping.
Everything arrived as promised & was packaged well for the journey. No dings or scratches...will happily order again from etrailer, should the opportunity arise.

After a year of use, I am still very satisfied with this car topper. We have gone on multiple camping trips with it now, and it has worked great. I think I have yet to see another Malone car topper out on the road, which is too bad, because I think the quality ranks up there with Yakima and Thule and the price is better.
Well constructed, easy to install, stayed dry inside during a heavy rain. Arrived promptly in good condition.

After a year of ownership, with the front support arm rubber pin replaced with a metal bolt, this box has been great. The top stays open for loading really well now, and the original problem I described above has been solved. Hopefully Malone or the Italian company that builds these boxes has modified their design!?! The box contents stay dry, too. We drove through a storm that dumped 3.5 inches of rain and caused road flooding in places, but everything inside the box remained perfectly dry. A nice feature. Would I buy this product again? Yes!
