Recommended Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier For 2003 Volkswagen GTI
Question:
Hi. I am looking for a way to carry more things for my detailing business while using my GTI. I would need something to hold an EU3000i which weighs around 85lbs. This could either be a small trailer or a hitch cargo, if that is possible with the weight and size. Please let me know if there are any configurations or such. Thanks!

If you do not already have a trailer hitch on your 2003 GTI I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C11066. This is a Class l trailer hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
Per Curt all non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps like part # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.
The cargo carrier I recommend for your Power Inverter is the Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18110. The inside dimensions of this carrier are 47-11/16 inches long x 19-1/2 inches wide. The carrier has weight capacity of 300-lbs. The carrier weighs 30-lbs.
To secure the inverter in the carrier I recommend using tie-downs like part # IMF103745-86. These are retractable ratchet straps with hooks.
