How to Pick Out Replacement Hubs for Mobile Home Axles

Question:
I just bought a tandem axle 16foot flatbed trailer and it has the open wheel type mobile home HADCO brake and idler hubs and 14.5 tires/wheels. Im trying unsuccessfully to find out are these axles/hubs legal to use in Alabama since they are not actually mobile home axles or is the legality issue the usage of mobile home tires on the axles? Have you ever tried to get a straight answer from a State employee?! If they do need to be changed and are there 6 on 5.5 hubs available brake and idler. It would be great to be able to use my Dodge 2500 spare in necessary. Thanks

You would have to contact your local DOT to find out if the tires/wheels/hubs you have are street legal in your area. Typically mobile home axles are set up for one time use so relying on them for any length of time might not be the best idea. You can also try contacting HADCO directly to see if they recommend your specific hub for highway use. You may find that you need to replace your hubs.
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information.
You will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle. The measurements needed are the parts of the spindle where the bearings ride.

You would want to first select the inner bearing you have, followed by selecting your outer bearing, and then all the correct hubs will be listed.
