Question:
Is there any way to test the unit uninstalled? I am renting a trailer and wanted to confirm my controller works before I get there. I put power to the unit and the led did not light up, but I did get 12v on the blue wire

You can test your Voyager brake controller # 39510. I have included some links to the right that cover testing as well as troubleshooting.
There should only be power on the blue wire at the back of the controller when the manual override lever is pressed. If it shows power at any other time that does indicate a problem. The black wire should have 12 volt power in to the brake controller.
The red wire should have power on it only when you step on the brake pedal.
White is ground and blue is output to the trailer brakes.
