Question:
hello. I have a 2inch recessed trailer hitch on my car. I have a yakima bike rack that is 1 1/4inch but i purchased a 2inch adapter from this site that nicely screws onto it and allows it to fit a 2inch trailer. I need to buy an extension for my recessed trailer and my question is - do you think it would be better if i buy a plain old 2inch extension and put the bike rack in with its 2inch adaper on....OR should i just buy a 2inch extension that has 1 1/4 on it and put in the bike rack without the converter? thank you

Expert Reply:
The most popular hitch extender we currently sell is # HE06 as it will extend your receiver tube opening up to 7-inches. I recommend this option since you already have a 2-inch adapter on your Yakima bike rack.
The hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch and the vehicle by 50 percent. You must abide by the capacities of the lowest rated component. For example, if the tongue weight capacity of the hitch is 200 pounds, but the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is 150 pounds, you must abide by 150. If you use a hitch extension, then your new tongue weight capacity is 75 pounds.
I have attached a video and FAQ for you as well.
