Question:

Just returned a 40215 bought at advance auto yesterday because the pins on the male side of the plug in to wiring harness did not line up with the truck harness on my vehicle. The 40215 harness had 2 rows of 3 pins side by side. On my truck harness there are also 2 rows but only 5 receptacles and they are somewhat staggered, not lined up like on the 40215. I did notice the 40215 container said the harness was for up-to 1999 ford ranger, although the online specs said the harness was an exact fit for my vehicle, which is a 2000 ford ranger. The harness on my truck is original. Will your harness work on my vehicle

The Hopkins 40215 kit is designed to be a fit for a 2000 Ford Ranger STX model. After talking with one of my contacts at a supplier, they told me that there were different connectors installed in Rangers for a brief period of time. That may be why the mismatch in the connectors as you spoke of.

I am attaching a photo of the # 40215 connector we have. We pulled one from the warehouse to see how the pins were located. It sure appears that the connector would not match the OEM harness you currently have.

I recommend the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118344 for your Ranger. This should easily plug into the connection points behind the tail lights at the back of your Ranger.
