Question:

I recently bought an older trailer and I am trying to determine what the axle ratings are so I can get parts for it. The front axle bearings are: Inner Timken 2788, Outer Bower 1779, National Seal 5970. Rear axle bearings Inner Timken 2595, Outer Timken 1380, National Seal 6454. I thought both axles were the same but the front has a significantly larger spindle. 5 bolt rims, 12inch brake hub, see attached picture of he front axle. Both axles are 1 3/4inch square.

That looks like a mobile home axle. It is possible that both axles are mobile home axles. But the problem with that is they are meant for one time use only. People get them because after they are used they are cheap. It is possible that this is also why the axles have two different sets of bearings. It is also extremely difficult to find parts for mobile home axles.

The 2788 and 1779 bearings are associated with hub 22834 which is not available. The seal sounds like a # 29031 which has a 1.875 inner diameter and 3 inch outer diameter.

I was unable to find information on bearing 2595. And we do not have a match for the small 1380 bearing. And seal 6454 is also very small and we do not have a match for it either.

Your best option is going to be to replace the axles so you have some new and standard parts. That way replacement parts are readily available. I have linked the axles we carry to the right.

The capacity of those axles is hard to determine. There may be a tag or information stamped on the axle beam somewhere. But I cannot determine the capacity based on the bearing numbers.
