Will Thule OutWay Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2000 BMW 3-Series Convertible
Updated 08/05/2014 | Published 08/03/2014 >
Question:
Hi I was given a Thule th45JV rack to be used on my BMW 323ci convertible. On looking at the fit guide instructions, I see the the manufacturer says NO FIT for the convertible, but does fit for the coupe and sedan 3-series. Can you explain why it will not work on the convertible? I was able to mount the rack per the instructions for the coupe without a problem. Thanks for your help!

First of all, whoever gave you the bike rack is super nice because the Thule OutWay is one of the best trunk mount bike racks available. But, what you have read in the fit information for the rack is true. The reason that it is not a fit for your 2000 3-series convertible is because Thule has determined that the rack cannot be safely mounted to the back of the vehicle.
Yakima does offer some racks that will fit the convertible models. I have included a link to them for you.
