Suspension Upgrade Without Air Bags for a 2027 Ford F-150 4WD

Updated 11/07/2026 | Published 11/03/2026

Question:

I have a 2027 Ford F-150 4WD that I use for work during the week and towing our travel trailer on weekends. I carry tools and equipment in the bed pretty regularly, and the rear end squats when it's loaded. I'd like something that helps with the sag and stability, but I really don't want air bags or anything that requires adjusting air pressure. What would you recommend?

Hey Brian! For your 2027 Ford F-150 I recommend the RoadActive Suspension Kit # RAS3611-YHD. This is a great alternative to air bags since it provides additional support without having to adjust air pressure or install a compressor.

The RAS system works with your factory leaf springs to help reduce rear sag, sway, and body roll when you're hauling tools or towing your travel trailer. It has a 3,000 lb load-support capacity, and you can adjust the spring tension during installation to dial in the support you need. Once it's set up, you won't have to make adjustments every time you switch between towing and driving unloaded.

What travel trailer are you towing with your F-150?

We're towing a 2025 Jayco Jay Flight 224BH. I already have a weight distribution hitch, but the truck still squats some when we're loaded for a trip. Will the RAS work with my weight distribution hitch?

@Brian yes, the # RAS3611-YHD will work with your existing weight distribution hitch. The RAS helps support your F-150's rear suspension, while the weight distribution hitch redistributes the trailer's tongue weight. Just make sure you check and adjust your weight distribution setup after installing the RAS since your truck's loaded ride height may change.

@Brian I have a 2025 Ford F150 4x4 King Ranch that I use to pull a 34’ travel trailer that weighs 9,000 pounds dry. We use a weight distribution hitch and I installed the RAS system on the truck. The two components work well together. The RAS raised the back of the truck by about an inch (without a load), but I find that increase causes the empty truck to handle better and I like the look too. With the weight distribution hitch and RAS the truck doesn’t squat at all - it is completely level. Although my truck can handle the trailer with the weight distribution hitch alone, I like the fact that the RAS takes some of the stress off of the back end of the truck. One other point. A few years ago I had 2015 F150 that I used to pull the same 9,000 pound trailer. Despite using a weigh distribution hitch, the truck would sag and the handling was poor. As a result. I purchased the RAS in an attempt to fix those issues. The RAS made an huge difference, eliminating the sag and improving the handling. I traded the 2015 truck for the 2025 model and immediately installed a new RAS because of how well it worked on my former truck. I am having the same positive experience with the new truck. The combination of the RAS and weight distribution hitch results in good handling and no sag. Overall, I am very happy with the RAS product and I highly recommend it.

@Brian yes, the RAS 3811-YTD system will work with your distribution hitch! My brother in law and I installed the RAS system and it is working great, I have a 2020 F150 and pull a 26’ Jayco with 7400 # loaded weight, I use a Blue Ox distribution hitch. The RAS system helped greatly with the truck back end sag and leveled out both trailer and truck, about almost 2”. The handling has greatly improved with and without the trailer. I set the adjustment for tension at mid range. What I like best is no maintenance or adjustments needed.
