Thanks for reaching out Gene. The etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit with Junction Box # e99011 is designed to protect your trailer's electrical connections from rain, road spray, and other normal weather conditions. However, the junction box is not considered waterproof or submersible, so it shouldn't be installed in a location where it will be underwater. Unfortunately, we don't currently carry a fully waterproof junction box designed for submersion.

For boat trailers, what we typically recommend is mounting the junction box as high as practical on the trailer frame in a location that stays above the waterline when launching and retrieving your boat. This will help protect the electrical connections from water intrusion and corrosion while still allowing you to use the junction box for a cleaner, more organized wiring setup.

What type of boat trailer are you working with, and are you planning to mount the junction box near the tongue or farther back on the frame?

I have a 2007 Showlander trailer for my 2025 Lund boat. I can try to mount it as high up as I can. Can I use something like silicone on it to help keep water out if it gets wet?

@GeneS That would definitely help. You can also use heat shrink ring terminals like # DW05740-1 to make your connections as watertight as possible.

THIS BOX FOR MY APPLICATION WAS GREAT HAD TO USE TWO ONE FRONT AND ONE REAR. FOR A BOAT TRAILER I WOULD NOT, DUE TO THE WET CONDITION THAT IT WILL BE GETTING INTO. I WOULD USE A TRAILER APPLICATION WIRING HARNESS THAT SPLITS DOWN BOTH SIDES WITH SEALED LIGHTS. IF YOU HAVE TO WIRE IN CONNECTORS USE A CONNECTOR THAT HAS A SHRINK TUBE END TO SEAL IT, OR COVER WITH A PIECE OF SHRINK TUBING. MOST BOAT TRAILERS THAT I COME IN CONTACT WITH USE A 4 POINT CONNECTER AND SURGE BRAKING, UNLESS THE TRAILER HAS BACKUP LIGHTS THAN A 5 PIONT. PESONNALLY I CUT THE PLUG OFF AND REPLACE WITH A SEVEN SPADE RV PLUG.

@FrannieF Thanks for sharing! Happy to hear the # e99011 is working well. Sounds like you have quite the setup. Did you take any good trips this summer or do you have anything planned?
